Course objectives
In the early days of implantology success was defined by the osseointegration of the implant fixtures. Nowadays, patients demand implant-supported restorations that are in harmony with the adjacent tissues and that can be maintained in health. Among the prerequisites to achieve such desired outcomes are the presence of bone covering the implant surface and an adequate soft tissue that can seal and protect the hard tissue. Moreover, soft tissue volume appears to play an important role in achieving optimal esthetics and the amount of keratinized tissue is also of critical importance to maintain the implant restorations in health. For the above-mentioned reasons soft tissue grafting with autologous tissue has become an important part of the armamentarium in order to achieve such desired results.
This seminar will discuss, from a clinical perspective, in the surgical techniques to predictably harvest soft tissue autografts. Moreover, the indications for connective tissue grafting and free gingival grafting will be discussed as well as a step-by-step description of the techniques to be applied in the clinical setting.
The course will therefore cover:
> Biology of soft tissue grafting around implants
> Soft tissue harvesting techniques
> Surgical techniques for soft tissue volume augmentation in the esthetic zone.
> Surgical techniques for keratinized mucosa augmentation in posterior areas.
