Course objectives

Peri-implant diseases have become a challenge in the clinical setting due to its high prevalence which hinders the outcomes of dental implants. Clinicians are often faced with the question of which type of treatment is the most adequate and if explantation should be considered. This course will review the etiology of this disease and the factors that influence its development giving clinicians the understanding of how to limit its occurrence.

Moreover, the treatment option starting with non-surgical therapy and continuing with resective and restorative surgery will be discussed in depth giving clinicians clear protocols and guidelines of when to use each. Finally, a live surgery will be performed to integrate the theoretical aspects discussed followed by a hands-on part where participants will be able to test the different decontamination options available and practice the clinical approaches discussed.
